Set the Wiper Service Position

These instructions apply to the Mercedes C-Class Mk5 (W206) 2021-Present. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

To change the wiper blades or lift them off the glass in winter on a Mercedes-Benz C-Class W206 (2021–present), the wiper arms need to be in their service (vertical) position. If you just switch off, the arms park low under the bonnet edge where you can’t reach them. Here’s how to raise them.

Why You Need the Service Position

The W206’s wipers park tucked below the bonnet lip. Forcing them up from there can bend an arm or crack the trim, so the car has a wash/service position that stands them upright.

How to Set the Wiper Service Position

  1. Make sure the bonnet is closed.
  2. With the ignition on, briefly press the wiper-wash button on the end of the steering-column stalk (about a second) — on the W206 this puts the wipers into the upright service/wash position.
  3. The arms rise and stop vertically. Lift them away from the glass to change blades or clear snow.

Some cars also offer a wiper service position toggle in the MBUX vehicle menu — either does the same job.

Returning Them to Park

Fold the arms back onto the glass, then switch the wipers on briefly (or cycle the ignition) — they return to the normal parked position under the bonnet.

If the Wipers Won’t Lift

  • Hold the stalk button a moment longer — a quick tap just does a single wash/wipe.
  • Check the MBUX menu for the service-position option if the stalk method doesn’t raise them.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I put the Mercedes C-Class wipers in service position?

With the ignition on, hold the wash button on the wiper stalk briefly; the arms rise to vertical. Some cars use an MBUX menu option.

Why won’t my wipers move up to be changed?

They park under the bonnet lip on purpose. Use the service position rather than forcing them.

How do I get them back down?

Fold them onto the glass and operate the wipers once, or cycle the ignition.

Do I need a tool?

No — it’s done from the wiper stalk or the MBUX menu.
