After the 12 V battery is disconnected on a Nissan Juke — or a window fuse blows, or the door card comes off — the driver’s one-touch window usually stops going up on its own and the anti-pinch protection switches off. Both come back with a quick re-initialisation you can do in under a minute, no tools needed.
When you need this
Re-initialise whenever the auto-up (one-touch close) or anti-pinch function stops working after any of these: disconnecting the battery’s negative terminal, a blown power-window fuse, replacing the master switch, or removing the door glass, regulator or window motor.
Re-initialise the auto-up window
On the Juke it is the driver’s window that has the one-touch/auto function, so that is the one to re-initialise; the other windows move only while you hold their switch and need no reset.
- Close the driver’s door and turn the ignition to ON.
- Hold the driver’s window switch down until the window is fully open. (Skip this if it is already all the way down.)
- Lift the switch to the AUTO-UP position to raise the window fully. When the glass reaches the top and stops, keep holding the switch up for at least another 2 seconds, then let go.
- Check it worked: tap the switch to auto-lower the window, then tap it up — the glass should now close on its own in one touch.
Confirm the anti-pinch safety
The same reset restores anti-pinch (the window reversing if it meets an obstruction). It is designed to protect fingers, so never test it with any part of your body, and keep children and pets clear of the glass while you check it. If the window rises part-way and then reverses on its own during the reset, something is physically resisting it — grit in the channel or a perished weatherstrip — and that stops the memory latching; clean and lubricate the run, then try again. If it still will not auto-close or auto-reverse, the motor, master switch or regulator is the likely culprit rather than the memory.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did my Juke’s auto-up window stop working after a battery change?
The power-window control learns the closed position and stores it. Cutting the power — a battery disconnect or blown fuse — erases that memory, so the window will still go up while you hold the switch, but the one-touch auto-up and anti-pinch stay disabled until you re-initialise.
Do all four windows need this?
On the Juke the one-touch/auto function is the driver’s window, so that is the one to re-initialise. The other windows raise and lower only while you hold their switch and need no reset.
It still won’t auto-close — what now?
Repeat the steps once, holding the switch a full 2–3 seconds past the top. If it still fails, suspect the window motor, the master switch or a tired regulator — a common Juke wear item — rather than the initialisation.
