Electrical work on a 2021-or-later Nissan Rogue begins by disconnecting the 12 V battery — negative off first, negative on last. The T33 uses a sealed, maintenance-free battery, and like the earlier Rogue it meters charging through a current sensor, so there are two things to get right.
- Ignition off, key out, doors shut a minute or two. Eye protection on.
- Open the hood; the battery sits at the front of the engine bay. Flip up the red cover over the positive post. Don’t try to open the sealed battery top.
- Undo and lift off the negative (−, black) clamp first; keep it clear of the post.
- Then remove the positive (+, red) clamp.
- Do your work — the clock and radio presets will drop.
- Reconnect positive first, negative last. Keep any accessory grounds off the battery terminal: the current sensor on the negative cable needs them taken to the body or engine instead.
- Switch on, check for lights, reset the clock and presets.
FAQ
Can I top up this battery?
No — the T33 battery is sealed and maintenance-free; there are no vent caps to open.
Which clamp first?
Negative off first, negative on last — it keeps a slipped tool from shorting the live positive to ground.
Why ground accessories to the body?
A sensor on the negative cable measures charge current. Grounding an add-on to the battery post bypasses it and can stop the battery charging fully.
Storing the Rogue?
If it sits 30 days or more, disconnect the negative cable to stop the battery discharging.
