Disconnecting the 12 V battery on your Saab 9-5 (9600, 1998–2010) — for a new battery, winter storage, or work near the airbags — is a straightforward job. The battery is in the engine compartment.
Find the Battery First
The 12 V battery is in the engine compartment. Note your radio security code and preset stations before you start.
Disconnecting Safely
- Remove the ignition key fully and switch everything off (the 9-5 ignition switch is on the centre console).
- Disconnect the negative (−) terminal first, then the positive.
- Working near airbags or seat-belt pretensioners? Wait a few minutes after disconnecting.
Reconnecting
Reconnect positive first, then negative. Afterwards:
- Re-enter the clock and radio presets.
- If a window loses one-touch, hold the switch fully up/down at the limit to relearn it.
