Reset the Service Indicator

These instructions apply to the Saab 9-5 (9600) 1998-2010. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: June 10, 2026

After an oil-and-filter change on your Saab 9-5 (9600, 1998–2010), the service indicator needs resetting from the dashboard. The method differs slightly by model year.

Before You Start

  • Do the oil and filter change first — resetting only clears the reminder.

2006 Onwards

  1. Turn the ignition on — the service display appears in the menu.
  2. At the same time, press and hold the SID button and the brake pedal.
  3. Wait about 8 seconds until an audible signal sounds — the system is reset.
  4. Turn the ignition off.

Up to 2005

On earlier cars, use the SID (Saab Information Display) CLEAR/SET buttons to enter the service menu and confirm the reset — follow the on-screen prompts until the indicator clears.

If the Reset Doesn’t Take

  • Hold both the button and brake the full 8 seconds (2006–).
  • Don’t start the engine — ignition on only.
  • A service light that won’t clear can store a code — look it up on autodtcs.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reset the service light on a Saab 9-5?

On 2006-on cars: ignition on, hold the SID button + brake pedal for 8 seconds until it beeps. Earlier cars use the SID menu buttons.

Do I need a tool?

No — it’s done from the dashboard SID.

Why won’t it reset?

Usually the button/brake weren’t held long enough, or the engine was started.

Should I reset before or after the oil change?

After — the indicator counts down to the next service.

If a service-related warning stays on, decode the code on autodtcs.com.
