Replace the Key Fob Battery

These instructions apply to the Skoda Superb Mk3 (3V) 2015-Present. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: June 5, 2026

If the remote on your Skoda Superb Mk3 (3V, 2015–present) has gone weak — you have to be close to lock or unlock, or a “key battery low” message has appeared — the fob’s coin cell needs renewing. The Superb flip key uses a CR2032 cell and opens with the help of the emergency blade. This guide shows how, with no programming required.

What You Need

  • One fresh CR2032 3 V lithium coin cell.
  • The fob’s metal key blade and a small flat screwdriver.

How to Replace the Superb Mk3 Key Battery

  1. Pull out the key blade — press the release catch and withdraw it.
  2. Insert a small flat screwdriver into the slot/seam and gently remove the button-cell cover (the half of the case that holds the cell).
  3. Lever out the old CR2032 cell with the screwdriver, noting which way up it sits.
  4. Fit the new cell the same way round (contacts clean).
  5. Refit the cover and click the case together, then slide the blade back in.
  6. Press any button on the remote, then test lock/unlock from a normal distance.

Does It Need Programming?

No — renewing the coin cell does not affect the fob’s pairing, so the key keeps working straight away. A lost or broken key can only be ordered and coded by a Skoda dealer — that part isn’t owner-doable.

If It Still Won’t Respond

Re-open the fob and check the cell orientation and clean contacts. Press any button a couple of times to re-sync the rolling code. With keyless cars, hold the fob against the start button to start if entry is slow to pick up.

Frequently Asked Questions

What battery does the Superb Mk3 key take?

A single CR2032 3 V lithium coin cell.

Will the car still start if the key battery is flat?

Yes. On keyless cars, hold the fob against the start button to start. The emergency blade unlocks the driver’s door.

Do I need to re-pair the key?

No — pairing is unaffected. Press any button once to re-sync the code and you’re done.

Can I program a spare key myself?

No — Skoda key coding needs the dealer system. Only the battery swap is owner-doable.
