Reset the Tire Pressure Monitor (TPMS)

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated October 12, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Toyota 4Runner Mk5 (N280) 2010-2024.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

The 2010–2024 Toyota 4Runner (N280) has a direct TPMS with a sensor in each wheel. Unlike some Toyotas it has no owner reset button — the low-pressure light clears on its own once the pressures are right. This is the US-market procedure, and it explains what you can and can’t do yourself.

Clear the low-pressure warning

  1. Set all four tires to the correct cold pressure (table below).
  2. Drive for a few minutes. Once the system reads correct pressures, the warning light goes out by itself — there is no button to press.

After new tires, wheels, or sensors

If you fit new wheels or replace a sensor, the new sensor ID codes must be registered in the TPMS computer, which requires Toyota dealer equipment — it is not an owner procedure on the 4Runner. Until the IDs are registered the light will stay on even at correct pressures.

FAQ

Is there a TPMS reset button on the 4Runner?

No. Correct the cold pressures and drive a few minutes; the light clears itself. A relearn/registration for new sensors is a dealer job with a TPMS tool.

The light stays on at correct pressure.

Either a sensor has a flat battery or new sensor IDs haven’t been registered — both need a dealer or an auto-electrician.

What pressure should I run?

32 psi front and rear on both the 17- and 20-inch fitments; confirm on your driver-door placard.

If your 4Runner stores a fault code with the warning light, look it up on autodtcs.com.
