Reset the Maintenance Light

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated October 12, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Toyota Tacoma Mk2 (N200) 2005-2015.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

The MAINT REQD light on a 2005–2015 Toyota Tacoma (N200) comes on at each scheduled service interval. After an oil change you clear it yourself — which method you use depends on whether your truck has the multi-information display. This is the US-market procedure.

Trucks with the multi-information display

  1. Press the < or > meter-control switch and select the multi-information display.
  2. Scroll with the up/down switches to Settings and press to enter.
  3. Select Maintenance Reset, press, then choose YES and press.

Trucks without the display (base grades) — trip-meter method

  1. Turn the ignition off with the odometer (not a trip meter) showing.
  2. Press and hold the trip-meter reset knob, and while holding it turn the ignition to ON (do not start the engine).
  3. Keep holding until the maintenance light stops flashing and resets. Release.

FAQ

Which method does my Tacoma use?

If you have the small multi-information display in the gauge cluster, use the Settings → Maintenance Reset menu. Base trucks without it use the trip-meter-and-ignition method.

When should I reset it?

Only after the service is actually done — the light tracks the mileage interval, not oil condition.

Is MAINT REQD the same as the oil-level warning?

No. MAINT REQD is a mileage service reminder. A flashing low-oil-pressure light is a stop-now warning — check the oil level.

The light came back on.

Re-do the reset and make sure the ignition was ON (engine off) throughout; the reset is canceled if the engine starts.

If your Tacoma stores a fault code with the warning light, look it up on autodtcs.com.
