The Vauxhall Astra (Mk8/L, 2022–Present) is the first Astra built on the Stellantis EMP2 platform, and it ships with the “Pure Panel” cockpit — a dual 10-inch display setup running the Stellantis NAC-derived infotainment shared with the Peugeot 308 and DS 4 of the same era. Because this is a Stellantis system and not the GM IntelliLink of the previous Astra K, a frozen touchscreen is rebooted with the NAC method: a long press of the power/volume control, done from the driver’s seat with no tools.
Which system the Astra L uses
The Mk8 Astra uses the Stellantis NAC infotainment behind the Pure Panel screens, not GM IntelliLink. That is why the Home + Fast-Forward combination from the Astra K does nothing here — the NAC platform reboots only on a long press of the power/volume control (or the phone key on cars that have one).
Soft reset (the normal fix)
- Press Start once without your foot on the brake so the ignition is on but the engine stays off.
- Press and hold the power/volume control on the infotainment fascia.
- Keep holding for 10 to 20 seconds — do not release early, as the NAC unit only triggers its reboot toward the end of that window.
- The screen goes black and the Vauxhall logo reappears as the system restarts.
- Wait up to a minute for the home screen to load completely before touching the display.
If your trim uses the phone/piano-key style controls instead of a knob, holding the phone key for around 8–10 seconds reboots the same way.
Is it safe? Will I lose data?
A soft reset is safe and erases nothing. Radio presets, paired phones, navigation favourites, profile preferences and wireless Apple CarPlay / Android Auto pairings all survive. It is a restart, not a wipe, and can be repeated as needed.
If it stays frozen
- Switch off, open and close the driver’s door, lock the car and walk away for a few minutes, then return — this lets the Pure Panel power down on its own timer.
- Repeat the power-control hold; one attempt can abort if the system froze mid-task.
- Leave the car locked for 20–30 minutes so the network goes to sleep, then restart.
- As a last resort, disconnect the 12V battery negative terminal for ten minutes, or pull the infotainment fuse for 30 seconds (location is in the handbook). This forces a hard power-down and resets the clock — reserve it for when nothing else responds.
Factory reset (erases data)
If the system keeps freezing — commonly after an over-the-air or dealer software update on early Mk8 cars — a factory data reset restores it to as-delivered. With the ignition on, open the main menu, go to Settings → System and select Factory data reset (shown on some builds as Restore factory settings), then confirm. This erases presets, paired devices, saved destinations and personalised profiles, so only use it when a reboot will not hold.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why won’t the Astra K’s Home + Fast-Forward reset work on my Astra L?
Because the Astra L abandoned GM IntelliLink for the Stellantis NAC system behind the Pure Panel. NAC reboots on a long power-knob (or phone-key) press, not the IntelliLink button combination.
Both Pure Panel screens froze — does one reset fix both?
Usually yes. The driver display and the central touchscreen are driven by the same infotainment computer, so the power-control reboot restarts the whole Pure Panel together. If only the digital instrument side misbehaves, an ignition off/on door cycle often clears it.
Will resetting delete my profile, CarPlay or saved destinations?
No. A soft reboot keeps all of it. Only the Factory data reset in Settings → System wipes profiles, pairings, presets and destinations.
Does the engine need to run to reset the Astra L infotainment?
No — ignition on (accessory mode) is enough and is preferable, so the system has steady voltage while it reboots.
My Astra L freezes often — is that a known issue?
Early Mk8 cars saw NAC freezing that several software revisions addressed. If it recurs after self-resets, ask a Vauxhall dealer to confirm the infotainment is on the latest software.
