Reset the Infotainment System

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated August 27, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Hyundai Kona Mk2 (SX2) 2023-Present.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

If the touchscreen in the second-generation Kona freezes, shows a black screen or stops responding, a forced reboot usually clears it. Holding the power knob restarts the system while keeping your settings and paired phones. A full factory reset is available separately if a reboot is not enough.

Before you start

  • A reboot keeps your settings and Bluetooth pairings; a factory reset erases them.
  • Park safely before you start, as the screen will go dark during the restart.
  1. Locate the power/volume knob on the infotainment unit.
  2. Press and hold that knob for about 10 seconds.
  3. Keep holding until the screen goes completely dark.
  4. Release when the Hyundai logo reappears and let the system boot fully.
  5. Check that touch response has returned and your pairings are still listed.
  6. If the fault persists, open Setup, then the general or system settings, and choose the factory reset option, accepting that this erases pairings and preferences.

FAQ

Will a reboot delete my Bluetooth pairings or settings?

No. The forced reboot only restarts the software. Your paired phones, radio presets and preferences are retained. Only a factory reset from the Setup menu clears them.

The screen stays black after holding the knob. What next?

Give it a full minute to complete the restart before deciding. If it still will not boot, try again, and if the fault continues consider a 12V battery reset, since a weak 12V supply can leave the system unstable.

When should I use the factory reset instead?

Use it only when repeated reboots fail to fix persistent freezing or corrupted settings. Because it wipes pairings and preferences, treat it as a last step and be ready to set the system up again.
