Reset the One-Touch Power Windows

Lost the one-touch express feature on your Magnum’s front windows? If tapping the switch no longer sends the glass all the way up or down, the door module has dropped its window calibration — the usual result of a battery or module disconnect. The window still travels while you hold the switch, so there is no mechanical failure. You just need to teach each front door its top and bottom stops again, which takes a minute or two. Work with the doors shut.

How you know it needs a relearn

On the Magnum the symptom is the same on either front door: a quick tap does nothing, but holding the switch runs the glass normally, and auto-up is usually the first to go. It typically appears after a battery replacement or any job that unplugs a front door. Note that only the two front doors have express — the wagon’s rear side windows and the liftgate glass are ordinary hold-to-run items, so they neither lose this calibration nor take part in the reset.

1. Turn the ignition to the Run position. The engine can be off.
2. Hold the driver’s window switch UP until the window stalls fully closed, keep holding for at least two seconds after it stops, then release.
3. Hold the same switch DOWN until the window stalls fully open, hold for at least two seconds after it stops, then release.
4. Hold the switch UP once more until the window is fully closed, hold for at least two seconds after it stalls, then release.
5. Repeat steps 2–4 using the front passenger window switch.
6. Test express up and down on both windows.

Why it happens

Each front door module stores the motor position of the fully-closed and fully-open stops so it can run the glass on its own and reverse against an obstruction. Removing power wipes those learned endpoints, and without them the module turns express off by design instead of driving a window whose limits it can no longer trust.

If express still won’t work

• Hold each end position the full two seconds past the stall — a rushed release is the usual reason the module doesn’t capture both limits.
• Calibrate the driver and passenger doors one at a time; each learns only the window you cycle.
• Repeat the whole teach-in once if a front window still ignores a single tap.
• If express is still dead after two clean attempts, suspect a stored door-module fault or a binding regulator — the relearn addresses neither — and have the door looked at.

Plan on running this reset on both front windows any time the Magnum’s battery has been off.
