Your Magnum wagon ships with BeltAlert active — the enhanced reminder that keeps chiming and flashing a warning if the driver stays unbelted after moving off. It’s a helpful prompt, but if the repeating chime wears on you during short hops around town, you can turn it off, or turn it back on, right in the driveway with just the belt and the ignition. It’s a driver-only setting, so it won’t touch the rear-belt reminders.
How you know you can change it
The stage you’re allowed to toggle is the one that carries on chiming for several seconds after you’ve pulled away without your belt — separate from the short warning at start-up. That’s BeltAlert. A single confirming chime at the end of the routine is how the wagon signals it accepted the change, so that one beep is what you’re listening for.
- With the ignition Off (any position except On or Start), buckle the driver’s seat belt.
- Turn the ignition to On and wait out the belt reminder — about six seconds.
- Unbuckle and re-buckle the driver’s belt three or more times, finishing with it buckled.
- Turn the ignition Off (any position other than On or Start). One chime confirms BeltAlert has switched — on to off, or off to on.
Only the extended reminder changes
Switching BeltAlert affects just the extended reminder — the extra chiming and flashing that continue once you’re rolling. The basic, legally required belt-warning light and its short initial chime cannot be turned off and stay active regardless. This toggle covers the driver’s belt only; it does not disable any warning meant to keep passengers or children belted.
If it doesn’t work
- Everything must happen within 60 seconds of switching the ignition On — overshoot and the setting stays put. Read the steps first, then work quickly.
- End with the belt buckled; stopping on an unbuckled belt leaves BeltAlert unchanged.
- Do three or more full buckle-and-unbuckle cycles — brief partial clicks may not register.
- If you never heard the single chime, you probably overran the minute — turn the ignition fully off and repeat from step 1 a little faster.
Do this parked, and keep in mind that turning off the reminder doesn’t lower the risk — belts are still the most important safety kit in the wagon, for you and everyone aboard.
