If the one-touch (auto) function on a Renault Trafic III (X82, 2014–2021) window stops working — the glass won’t go all the way up or down on a single press, or only moves while you hold the switch — the window motor has usually lost its memory after a flat or disconnected battery. Re-initialising it takes a few seconds per window and no tools.
Re-initialise the Electric Windows

- Sit in the driver’s seat with the ignition on.
- Press and hold the close switch for the driver’s window until the glass is fully closed.
- Keep holding the switch for about one more second after it reaches the top, then release.
- Check it works: a quick press should now run the window fully up or down on its own.
- Repeat for the passenger’s window.
If It Still Won’t Auto-Close
Do the hold at the top firmly — releasing too soon is the usual reason it doesn’t take. If a window is slow, notchy or still won’t reinitialise, the regulator or motor may be worn, or the run channels need cleaning and lubricating. One-touch is also disabled while the battery voltage is low, so charge or replace a tired battery first.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why has my Trafic window stopped going up automatically?
Almost always because the battery went flat or was disconnected, which wipes the window’s memory. Re-initialise it by holding the switch closed for a second past the top.
How do I reset the electric windows?
Ignition on, hold the close switch until the window is fully up, keep holding about one second more, release, then test. Repeat for the other window.
Is it the same on the Fiat Talento, Nissan NV300 and Vauxhall Vivaro?
Yes — the same X82 window system, so the re-initialisation is identical.
If the trouble followed a battery change, see our battery disconnect and reconnect guide for the full after-reset list.
