A blown headlight bulb is a quick owner fix and an MOT failure if left, so it’s worth doing promptly. The Citroën C4 (2010–2018) uses a H7 bulb for both dipped and main beam. Always replace bulbs in pairs so both sides match.
How to change a headlight bulb on a Citroën C4
- Switch the lights off and open the bonnet. Work from behind the headlight in the engine bay — remove the cover, unclip the bulb holder and swap the bulb.
- Unplug the connector, release the spring clip or twist-holder, and take the old bulb out.
- Fit the new bulb without touching the glass — finger grease creates hot spots that shorten its life (hold it by the base or use a clean cloth).
- Refit the clip/holder, the connector and the cover, then test the light.
If a new bulb doesn’t light, check the connector and the relevant fuse. A bulb that blows repeatedly can point to a charging or wiring fault.
Frequently asked questions
What headlight bulb does a Citroën C4 take?
A H7 bulb for both dipped and main beam — confirm against the old bulb before buying, as some trims differ.
Why shouldn’t I touch the glass?
Skin oils leave hot spots that make the bulb fail early. Handle it by the metal base.
If a bulb-out warning stays on after fitting a good bulb, you can look up the code on autodtcs.com.
