After a flat or disconnected battery, the one-touch (auto up/down) and anti-trap on the Audi Q5 (8R, 2008–2017) electric windows stop working until you re-initialize each window. It takes under a minute per door with no tools.
How to Re-Initialize the Q5 Electric Windows
- Switch the ignition on.
- Close the driver’s window fully: press and hold the switch up until the glass is shut, then keep holding for about a second.
- Release the switch.
- Press and hold the switch up again for about a second with the window closed, then release.
- Test one-touch up and down — it should now work fully.
- Repeat the same steps for the passenger and rear windows.
When You Need This
- After disconnecting or replacing the 12V battery.
- If a window only moves while you hold the switch, or one-touch has stopped working.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did my Q5 windows stop doing one-touch?
Losing battery power clears the windows’ stored end positions, so the car disables one-touch and anti-trap for safety until each window is re-initialized.
Do I have to do every window?
Yes — each window is learned separately, so repeat the hold-closed procedure at every door that lost its one-touch.
If a window still won’t initialize or throws a fault, check the code on autodtcs.com.
