The pollen filter (cabin air filter) cleans the air coming into your Toyota Aygo through the vents. A clogged one weakens airflow and lets in smells. On the Aygo it lives behind the glovebox — but only cars fitted with air conditioning have one, so it is worth checking first.
Does my Aygo have a pollen filter?
Only Aygos with air conditioning (the cars with a cooling/dehumidify button on the climate panel) have a cabin air filter. Base models without A/C have a blanking panel in its place and no filter to change.
If your car has A/C and airflow from the vents has dropped off, a blocked filter is a likely cause.
Where is the cabin filter on a Toyota Aygo?
It sits behind the glovebox, on the passenger side of the dashboard. You reach it by dropping the glovebox down out of the way — no tools are needed for the filter itself.
How to replace the pollen filter
- Turn the engine switch to the “LOCK” position.
- Open the glovebox, then release it at the sides so it swings fully down and clears the filter housing behind it.
- Pull the old air conditioning filter straight out of its slot, as shown in the owner’s manual illustration. Note which way up it sits — the airflow arrow on the frame faces the same way on the new one.
- Slide the new filter in with the airflow arrow pointing the correct way, then refit the glovebox.
Never run the air conditioning with no filter fitted — dust and debris can then collect inside the evaporator and damage the system.
How often should it be changed?
Replace it in line with the service schedule in your Toyota service booklet. If you drive in dusty areas or heavy traffic, change it more often — a sudden drop in airflow from the vents usually means it is clogged.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the cabin filter on a Toyota Aygo?
Behind the glovebox on the passenger side. Drop the glovebox down to reach the filter and slide it out of its slot.
Does every Aygo have a pollen filter?
No. Only Aygos with air conditioning have one. Cars without A/C have a blank in its place and nothing to replace.
Which way round does the filter go?
Fit it with the airflow arrow on the frame pointing the same way as the old one came out. Fitting it backwards reduces its effectiveness.
What happens if I don’t change it?
Airflow from the vents weakens, the cabin can smell musty, and the A/C has to work harder. A badly clogged filter can also let moisture and debris reach the evaporator.
