Replace the Cabin (Pollen) Filter

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated October 6, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Kia Picanto Mk2 (TA) 2011-2017.

The cabin (pollen) filter on the Kia Picanto (2011–2017) cleans the air entering the heater and air-conditioning system. It sits behind the glovebox and is a straightforward DIY job — no tools are needed beyond your hands. A clogged filter weakens airflow and can fog the windows.

Which filter you need

The genuine Kia part is 97133-07010; quality aftermarket equivalents (for example from Mann, Bosch, or Mahle) fit the same housing. If you buy locally, match the filter to your car by registration or VIN to be sure of the size.

How to replace it

  1. Open the glovebox fully and empty its contents.
  2. Release the glovebox so it can drop down: squeeze the sides inward to clear the stops, and unhook the small support strap or damper arm if fitted.
  3. With the glovebox hanging down, you will see the rectangular filter cover on the air-conditioning housing behind it.
  4. Press the tabs on the filter cover and remove it, then slide the old filter straight out. Note the airflow arrow printed on its frame.
  5. Fit the new filter with the airflow arrow pointing the same way (normally downward), refit the cover, and lift the glovebox back into place.
  6. Run the fan on a high setting to confirm airflow has improved.

How often to change it

Kia lists the cabin filter as a replacement item at the regular service (around every 15,000 km or 12 months). Change it more often if you drive in heavy traffic, dusty areas, or notice a musty smell or weak airflow.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the cabin filter on a Kia Picanto TA?

Behind the glovebox, in the air-conditioning housing. You reach it by dropping the glovebox down — there is no separate panel to unscrew.

Do I need any tools?

No. The glovebox and filter cover release by hand. A torch helps you see the cover tabs.

Which way does the filter go in?

Follow the airflow arrow on the filter frame, which points in the direction of the air moving through the housing — usually downward. Fitting it backwards reduces its effectiveness.
