Locate and Change a Blown Fuse

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated October 6, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Kia Picanto Mk2 (TA) 2011-2017.

When an electrical item on the Kia Picanto (2011–2017) stops working — a light, the radio, a power socket — a blown fuse is the first thing to check. The TA has two fuse panels, and swapping a fuse is a quick DIY job once you know where they are.

Where the fuse panels are

The Picanto TA has two fuse boxes:

  • Interior fuse panel: at the end of the dashboard on the driver’s side, behind a small cover (open the driver’s door to reach it). This panel also holds the memory fuse.
  • Engine-compartment fuse box: a sealed box in the engine bay, holding the higher-current and engine-system fuses. Its lid presses off by its tab.

The exact circuit for each slot is printed on the inside of each fuse-box lid. Always read the legend on your car rather than relying on a generic chart, because fuse assignments vary with engine, transmission, and equipment level.

How to change a blown fuse

  1. Turn the ignition and the affected circuit off.
  2. Open the relevant fuse-box cover and use the legend to find the fuse for the dead item.
  3. Pull the suspected fuse straight out using the plastic puller clipped inside the engine-bay fuse box — never use a screwdriver or metal tool, which can cause a short.
  4. Hold the fuse up to the light: if the metal strip inside is broken or discoloured, it has blown.
  5. Fit a new fuse of the same amperage rating (the number on top), pushing it firmly into the clips.
  6. Test the circuit.

Important safety points

Only ever replace a fuse with one of the same rating. A higher-rated fuse, or a piece of wire, can overheat the wiring and start a fire. If a new fuse blows again straight away, there is a fault in that circuit — have it diagnosed rather than fitting a bigger fuse.

Note that pulling the memory fuse (or losing battery power) will reset the clock, radio presets, and some convenience settings.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the fuse box on a Kia Picanto TA?

There are two: one at the driver’s end of the dashboard behind a cover, and one in the engine compartment.

How do I know which fuse is which?

The layout is printed on the inside of each fuse-box lid for your specific car. That diagram is the reliable reference.

My replacement fuse blew immediately — why?

That points to a short or an overloaded circuit. Stop replacing the fuse and have the circuit checked by an auto electrician.

If an electrical fault has also triggered a warning light, you can look the code up at autodtcs.com.
