Replace the Cabin (Pollen) Filter

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated October 6, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Honda CR-V Mk3 (RE) 2007-2012.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

The Honda CR-V (RE, 2007-2012) cabin (dust and pollen) filter sits behind the glovebox. Replacing it restores airflow and cuts pollen and odors — a 10-minute job with no tools.

Replace the filter

  1. Open the glovebox and empty it.
  2. Squeeze the sides of the glovebox inward to release it from the stops, then let it swing fully down.
  3. Release the filter cover panel behind the glovebox by pressing its tabs, and remove it.
  4. Slide the old filter straight out of its slot.
  5. Note the airflow arrow on the new filter — it must point downward (the same way the old one was fitted). Slide the new filter in.
  6. Refit the cover and lift the glovebox back onto its stops.

Honda suggests replacing the filter roughly every 24,000 km (15,000 miles), or sooner in dusty or urban conditions, or whenever airflow drops.

Frequently asked questions

Which way does the filter face? The airflow arrow points down, toward the floor. Fitting it upside down reduces airflow.

Do I need tools? No — the glovebox and filter cover release by hand.
