Replace the Remote Key Fob Battery

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated October 7, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Suzuki Swift Mk3 (AZG/AZH) 2010-2017.

A weak or dead key fob battery is the most common reason a Suzuki Swift remote stops locking or unlocking the doors. On the 2010–2017 Swift the fob takes a single CR2032 3-volt lithium coin cell, and you can swap it in a couple of minutes with no tools.

What battery does the Swift key fob use?

The standard remote and the keyless-entry smart key both use one CR2032 cell. Always confirm by reading the number printed on the old battery before you buy a replacement — if your early flip key holds a smaller cell, match that number instead.

How to Replace the Key Fob Battery

  1. Slide the small catch on the fob and pull out the mechanical emergency key blade.
  2. Insert the blade (or a small flat-blade screwdriver) into the slot the blade left behind and gently twist to split the two halves of the case.
  3. Note which way up the old CR2032 sits, then lift it out.
  4. Fit the new cell with the same side facing up, keeping your fingers off the flat faces.
  5. Press the case halves back together until they click, and refit the emergency blade.
  6. Test the remote on the car — if it does not respond, hold it close to the start button or door handle and try again.

FAQ

Do I need to re-program the remote after changing the battery?
No. The fob keeps its coding; replacing the cell does not pair or unpair it. If the buttons still do nothing after a fresh battery, the remote may need re-synchronizing by a Suzuki dealer.

How long does a Swift key fob battery last?
Typically two to three years. A shorter remote range or a “key battery low” message in the display is the usual early warning.

Can I still start the car if the fob battery is dead?
Yes. Use the mechanical blade to open the door, and on keyless models hold the fob against the start button to start the engine.

For trouble codes that can appear after battery or electrical work, see the OBD-II fault-code guides at autodtcs.com.
