The cabin (pollen) filter on your Hyundai i40 (VF, 2011–2019) sits behind the glovebox and cleans the air coming into the cabin. A clogged filter weakens the airflow from the vents and can fog the windows. Changing it is a tool-free, ten-minute job.
How to Replace the i40 Cabin Filter
- Open the glovebox and unclip the support strap on the right-hand side.
- Squeeze in the stoppers on both sides of the glovebox so it drops down fully.
- Press the lock on the right of the filter cover and pull the cover out.
- Slide out the old filter, noting the airflow arrow (it points down, toward the floor).
- Fit the new filter the same way up, refit the cover, then lift the glovebox back onto its stoppers and reconnect the strap.
How Often Should It Be Changed?
Replace the cabin filter roughly every 15,000 km or 12 months. Change it sooner if you drive in heavy traffic, dusty areas, or notice weak airflow or musty air.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which way does the filter go in?
With the airflow arrow (or “AIR FLOW” text) pointing downward. Fitting it upside down reduces airflow.
Do I need any tools?
No. The glovebox stoppers and the filter cover release by hand.
Where is the i40 cabin filter?
Directly behind the glovebox. Once the glovebox is dropped down, the filter cover is right in front of you.
