Replace the Wiper Blades

These instructions apply to the Hyundai i40 Mk1 (VF) 2011-2019.

Smearing or juddering wipers on a Hyundai i40 (VF, 2011–2019) usually just need fresh blades. Both the front and rear blades are a tool-free swap.

Front Wiper Blades

  1. Lift the wiper arm off the glass until it locks upright. Don’t let it snap back onto the screen — it can crack the glass.
  2. Lift the small clip or tab on the blade, then slide the blade down the arm and off.
  3. Slide the new blade onto the arm until it clicks home.
  4. Lower the arm gently back onto the glass.

Rear Wiper Blade

  1. Lift the rear wiper arm and pull the old blade straight out.
  2. Push the new blade’s center into the slot in the arm until it clicks, then tug it lightly to confirm it is locked.

Tips

Replace the front blades as a pair so both wipe evenly. Never drag the wipers across a dry screen, and don’t move them by hand with the motor switched on. Check the correct blade lengths and fitting type for your exact i40 before buying.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I change wiper blades?

About once a year, or whenever they streak, chatter or leave missed strips.

The new blades still smear — why?

Clean the glass thoroughly (wax and road film are common culprits) and wipe the blade edge. If it persists, the arm spring may be weak.
