The fourth-generation GMC Sierra 1500 runs a direct TPMS — a sensor in each wheel but not the spare. After a rotation or a sensor change you re-match the sensors to their corners in Tire Learning mode. With the uplevel DIC and a $15 GM relearn tool it’s a DIY job; GMC’s ProGrade Trailering displays read from the same sensors.
- Set all four to the placard pressure (table below), apply the parking brake, ignition ON, engine off.
- Scroll the DIC to the tire-pressure page (uplevel: steering-wheel DIC buttons; base: trip-odometer stem).
- Hold the thumbwheel and confirm yes — the horn double-beeps and TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE shows, starting at the driver-front.
- Trigger the relearn tool at the driver-front valve; a chirp confirms the match.
- Carry on passenger-front → passenger-rear → driver-rear.
- A closing double-beep finishes it. Switch off and set every tire to the placard figure.
Two minutes for the first wheel, five overall — restart Tire Learning if it times out.
GMC Sierra 1500 tire pressures
GMC sets the Sierra’s cold pressures by fitted tire size and prints the exact figures on the Tire and Loading Information label on the driver-side center (B) pillar. Use that placard as the authority; the usual factory figures by size are:
| Tire size | Front (cold) | Rear (cold) |
|---|---|---|
| 255/70R17, 265/70R17 (P-metric) | 35 psi | 35 psi |
| 265/65R18 | 35 psi | 35 psi |
| 275/60R20, 275/55R20, 275/50R22 | 32 psi | 32 psi |
| LT265/70R17, LT275/65R18 (AT4 / heavy-duty / tow) | 45 psi | 45 psi |
Check them cold and match your placard — AT4 and trailer-rated fitments often run higher than the LT and SLT road tires.
FAQ
Does the Sierra store the pressures I see on screen?
The live per-wheel pressures come straight from the sensors; the relearn only re-maps which sensor is at which corner. It doesn’t change the readings.
What tool?
A GM-compatible relearn tool (about $15) — the same one used across GM trucks.
No Tire Learning on my truck?
Base-cluster Sierras don’t expose it; use a scan tool or a shop.
Light stays on.
Re-check cold pressures and repeat; a flat sensor battery needs replacing.
The GMC Sierra 1500 is mechanically identical to the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, so this procedure is the same on both trucks — see our Chevrolet Silverado 1500 guides.
