These instructions apply to the Chevrolet Tahoe (K2XX) 2015-2020.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.
The 2015–2020 Chevrolet Tahoe (K2XX) uses the GM Oil Life System and shows CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON at service time. After an oil and filter change you clear it from the Driver Information Center. This is the US-market procedure, shared with the Suburban.
- Turn the ignition to ON/RUN, engine off. Page the DIC to the OIL LIFE REMAINING screen with the steering-wheel buttons (or the trip-odometer stem on trucks without DIC buttons).
- Press and hold the ✓ (checkmark) button — or the trip-odometer stem — for several seconds until the oil life reads 100%.
Accelerator-pedal method
- Ignition ON/RUN, engine off.
- Fully press the accelerator pedal slowly three times within five seconds.
- If OIL LIFE REMAINING shows 100%, it’s reset.
If CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON returns, repeat.
FAQ
Checkmark button or gas pedal?
Either works on the K2XX Tahoe. The earlier GMT900 Tahoe only had the SET/RESET-button method.
What oil?
The 5.3L V8 takes dexos1 0W-20 (2017 on; 2015–2016 used 5W-30), about 8.0 qt with a filter.
Does it have Stop/Start and an AGM battery?
No — these K2XX full-size SUVs don’t use Auto Stop/Start, so a standard maintenance-free battery is fine.
The Tahoe shares its GM running gear and electronics with the Chevrolet Silverado and the long-wheelbase Suburban, so these steps match across all three — see our Chevrolet Silverado guides.
