These instructions apply to the Dodge Charger Mk7 (LD) 2011-2023.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.
With the 2011–2023 Dodge Charger’s battery tucked in the trunk, you jump it from the remote posts under the hood rather than digging into the luggage bay. They sit on the right-hand side of the engine compartment. This is the US-market procedure.
- Parking brake on, transmission in P, ignition off, heater/radio/accessories off. Bring a 12 V donor within cable reach, not touching.
- Open the hood and, standing at the right fender, find the remote positive (+) and remote negative (−) posts.
- Red (+) cable: the Charger’s remote positive first, then the donor’s positive.
- Black (−) cable: the donor’s negative first, then the Charger’s remote negative post (that ground point only).
- Idle the donor a few minutes, start the Charger, then pull the cables in the exact reverse order.
FAQ
Do I jump it from the trunk battery?
No — use the under-hood remote positive and negative posts on the right side of the engine bay. Dodge put them there so you don’t have to reach the trunk battery.
Where exactly do I ground?
To the remote negative post under the hood — the specified ground point — not the trunk battery.
Still cranks slow?
Give the donor a few minutes to feed charge, and check the clamps bite clean metal. Repeated failures mean a battery or alternator test.
The Charger shares its LX platform, drivetrains and these procedures with the two-door Dodge Challenger.
