These instructions apply to the Toyota Camry Mk7 (XV50) 2012-2017.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.
On the 2012–2017 Toyota Camry the 12V battery location depends on the model: the gas car has it in the engine bay, while the Hybrid keeps it on the right-hand side of the trunk under a cover.
Always turn the car fully off before disconnecting, and remove the negative terminal first.
- Switch the car off — the engine switch (gas) or the POWER switch (Hybrid) to OFF — and set the parking brake.
- Find the battery: in the engine bay (gas), or under the cover on the right side of the trunk (Hybrid).
- Disconnect the negative (−) terminal first, then the positive (+).
- To reconnect, fit the positive (+) first, then the negative (−) last.
- Restart in ACCESSORY mode first (especially on the Hybrid) — it may not start on the first try but will on the second. Reset the clock (it returns to 1:00) and re-initialize the driver’s window if one-touch stops working.
Never slow-charge the Hybrid’s 12V battery at more than 5 amps, and never touch the orange high-voltage service plug or the traction battery behind the rear seat.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the 12V battery on a Camry Hybrid?
On the right-hand side of the trunk, under a cover — not in the engine bay like the gas Camry.
Which terminal comes off first?
Negative off first, positive on first — and turn the car fully off before you start.
My windows or clock stopped working after disconnecting — why?
The clock resets to 1:00 and the driver’s one-touch window may need re-initializing; both are normal after the battery loses power.
