Home/Honda/Jazz/Mk4 (GR) 2020-Present/Disconnect and Reconnect the Battery

Disconnect and Reconnect the Battery

These instructions apply to the Honda Jazz Mk4 (GR) 2020-Present. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: June 12, 2026

The Honda Jazz Mk4 (GR, 2020–present) is an e:HEV hybrid, so it has a high-voltage traction battery (never touch it) and a small 12 V battery that runs the electronics. This guide covers safely disconnecting the 12 V battery — the one you change or isolate for electrical work.

Important: Which Battery This Is

You only ever work on the 12 V battery. Never touch the orange high-voltage cables or the traction battery — that system is for trained technicians. The 12 V job below is owner-safe.

Where the 12V Battery Is

On the Jazz e:HEV the 12 V battery is in the engine compartment, under a cover.

Disconnecting

  1. Switch the car fully off (not “ready”) and keep the smart key away from the car.
  2. Wait 3 minutes after switching off before disconnecting.
  3. Disconnect the negative (−, black) terminal first and lift the lead clear.
  4. If removing the battery, disconnect the positive (+, red) next, then the hold-down.

Airbag/pretensioner safety: if you’ll be near airbags or seat-belt pretensioners, allow the system to discharge for the 3 minutes.

Reconnecting

  1. Reconnect positive (+) first, then negative (−) last; tighten and refit the cover.
  2. Reset the clock and re-enter radio presets.
  3. Recalibrate the tyre-pressure (deflation) monitor — see our Jazz Mk4 TPMS guide.

The Jazz doesn’t need the new 12 V battery coded.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to disconnect the 12V battery on the hybrid?

Yes — the 12 V system is isolated from the high-voltage side. Just leave the orange cables and traction battery alone.

Which terminal first?

Disconnect negative (−) first and reconnect it last.

Where is the 12V battery on the Jazz hybrid?

In the engine bay under a cover.

Does it need the battery registered?

No — just reset the clock and recalibrate the deflation monitor.
