What the Maintenance Minder Means
The Jazz Mk4 uses Honda’s Maintenance Minder, a condition-based system that estimates the remaining life of the engine oil and other service items rather than counting down on mileage alone. It watches how the car is driven — engine running conditions, temperatures and use — and displays the remaining oil life as a percentage that falls toward 0%. When it’s time, the wrench symbol appears alongside a service code that tells you what’s due.
The letters and numbers are the key to reading it. “A” and “B” are the main service items, while the numbers are sub-items covering things like filters, fluids and inspections. Because the display shows the actual jobs due, you know exactly what the service should include. As it is condition-based, the wrench stays on until you reset it after the work — it doesn’t clear by itself when fresh oil goes in.
Reset After the Service Only
The Maintenance Minder estimates remaining oil/service life; resetting without doing the work makes the car think the oil is fresh.
First, a Few Checks
- Reset only after the oil and any listed service items are done.
- Park on level ground and apply the parking brake.
- You’ll power the car to “ignition on” without going to “ready” — the dash is live but the hybrid system is not running. No tools are needed.
- Locate the INFO and ENTER controls on the steering wheel before you begin.
How to Reset the Jazz Mk4 Maintenance Minder
- Apply the parking brake and power the car on to “ignition on” without going to “ready” (press the power button without your foot on the brake).
- Press the ‘INFO’ button on the steering wheel repeatedly until the service spanner / maintenance display appears.
- Press ‘ENTER’, then press and hold ‘ENTER’ for at least 10 seconds.
- Select the service item shown and press ‘ENTER’ to confirm.
- ‘Reset completed’ appears — the indicator returns to 100%.
If It Doesn’t Reset
- You didn’t hold ENTER long enough — the ~10-second hold opens the reset.
- The car went to “ready” — power on without pressing the brake so it stops at ignition-on, then try again.
- Wrong screen — cycle INFO until the maintenance/spanner display is showing before you press and hold ENTER.
- You didn’t confirm — after the hold, select the service item and press ENTER so ‘Reset completed’ appears.
- A different warning is on — that’s a fault, not the Maintenance Minder.
Once the Reset Is Done
When the reset takes, ‘Reset completed’ shows and the oil-life percentage returns to 100%. The wrench symbol clears and shouldn’t reappear at the next power-up. If more than one item was due, the display may prompt you to reset each in turn, so check that the reading is back to full and no service code remains. From there the Maintenance Minder starts a fresh estimate and will prompt again only when the new oil reaches the end of its useful life.
Reset Frequency
Reset the Maintenance Minder every time the oil is changed or a listed service item is completed — and only then. Because the system is condition-based, the mileage between prompts varies with how and where you drive, so there isn’t one fixed figure to follow. Many owners also change the oil at least once a year as a safeguard even if the percentage hasn’t reached zero. For the service items, oil grade and any time limit that apply to your car, follow the schedule in your owner’s handbook.
