Disconnecting the 12 V battery on a Skoda Fabia Mk4 (PJ, 2021–present) is a simple engine-bay job. This guide covers safe disconnection and the few things the car needs re-taught afterwards.
Where the Battery Is
The 12 V battery sits in the engine bay, usually under a plastic cover on the left. The Fabia Mk4 is petrol-only, so there’s no high-voltage system to worry about.
Disconnecting
- Switch the ignition off, remove the key/keyless fob and wait a minute for the electronics to sleep.
- Disconnect the negative (−) terminal first and tuck the lead aside.
- If removing the battery, disconnect the positive (+) next, then the clamp.
Reconnecting & Re-teaching
- Reconnect positive (+) first, then negative (−) last.
- Reset the clock; the radio/infotainment usually reloads on its own.
- Re-initialise the one-touch windows — see our Fabia window guide.
- If your Fabia has a stop/start that seems lazy for a drive or two, that’s the system relearning the battery state — normal.
A like-for-like battery doesn’t strictly need coding on the Fabia, but if you fit a different type or capacity, have it registered so the charging strategy matches.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which terminal first on the Fabia?
The negative (−) first, and reconnect it last.
Does the Fabia battery need coding?
A matching replacement generally doesn’t; a different type/capacity should be registered for correct charging.
Will I lose my radio?
No code is normally needed — just reset the clock.
Why won’t my windows auto-close now?
The power cut cleared their learned position. Run the quick re-initialise.
For any warning light that stays on, look up the code on autodtcs.com. To clear the service reminder, see our Fabia Mk4 service reset.
