The Volkswagen T-Roc (2018–present) keeps a reference set of tyre pressures in memory, so after you inflate or change a tyre you have to tell it the new values are the correct ones. Until you do, it keeps measuring against the old figures and leaves the tyre warning showing — which is normal system behaviour, not a fault. You store the new reference through the infotainment menu (or a dashboard button on some cars). Here’s how.
How the T-Roc’s System Works
Most T-Rocs use an indirect system: rather than a pressure sensor in each wheel, it watches wheel-speed data from the ABS. A tyre losing pressure shrinks slightly in diameter and spins fractionally faster than the others, and the car flags that difference. Because it compares wheels against a stored baseline, it can’t know your tyres are correct until you save that baseline yourself — which is exactly what the store function does. It also means it has no way to read a spare or to warn you if all four drop together, so a manual check every few weeks still matters.
Before You Start
- Check and set pressures cold — before driving, or after a few hours parked. Warm tyres read high.
- Inflate all four tyres to the figure on the driver’s door-pillar label; use the higher (loaded) column if you’re carrying passengers or luggage.
- Only store the reference once every corner is correct — the system trusts whatever is set at that moment.
- Have the ignition on for the menu method, or the engine off but ignition live for the button method.
Set the Pressures First
Inflate all four tyres cold to the figure on the driver’s door-pillar label, then store the new reference.
Method 1 — Infotainment Menu
- Adjust the pressures, then switch the ignition on.
- On the touchscreen open ‘Vehicle’ (or ‘Car’) → ‘Setup/Settings’.
- Select ‘Tyres’ → ‘Store tyre pressures’ / ‘SET’ and confirm. A message confirms the new reference is saved.
Method 2 — Dashboard Button
If your T-Roc has a physical TPMS button (often near the gear lever or below the screen), adjust the pressures, switch the ignition on, then press and hold the button until it confirms.
If the Light Stays On
- Re-check every tyre. The system compares wheels against each other, so one low corner is enough to trigger it.
- Always re-store after inflating. Topping up alone doesn’t clear the warning — the new baseline has to be saved.
- Drive a short distance after storing. An indirect system needs a few minutes of normal driving to relearn the wheel speeds before the light goes out.
- Cold snap overnight? Pressures fall with temperature; top up to the label figure and store again.
- After a wheel change or rotation, always run the store — the reference is tied to the wheels that were fitted when you last saved it.
- One tyre keeps dropping even after storing points to a slow puncture; have it inspected rather than repeatedly re-storing.
- Warning returns immediately every time can mean an ABS or wheel-speed sensor fault rather than a tyre issue — worth a scan.
What to Expect After
Once the store confirms and the pressures are right, the tyre warning clears — usually straight away on the menu method, or after a few minutes of driving on an indirect car as it relearns. It then stays off until a tyre genuinely loses pressure or you change a wheel again. If you swap between summer and winter sets, plan to run the store each time you refit a different set.
