Replace the Key Fob Battery

These instructions apply to the DS 3 Crossback Mk1 (D34) 2019-Present. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: June 7, 2026

If the remote on your DS 3 Crossback (2019–present) has lost its range, needs repeated presses, or has stopped responding, the coin cell in the key is almost certainly flat. It’s a quick swap. Here’s the job, plus why a brand-new key is a dealer matter.

Battery First

The DS 3 Crossback key uses a CR2032 coin cell (check the old one, as some PSA remotes use a CR1620). A weak cell is behind almost every unreliable-remote complaint, so fit a fresh one before suspecting the car. The fob has an emergency key blade that unlocks the driver’s door if the remote is dead.

Replacing the Fob Battery

  1. Slide out the emergency key blade from the fob — this releases the case.
  2. Open the cover with a small screwdriver at the seam.
  3. Lift out the old CR2032 and fit the new cell the same way round.
  4. Close the cover, refit the blade, and test lock/unlock.

Lost Key or Adding a Spare

A battery swap keeps the existing coding. A new key must be ordered and coded by a DS dealer through the immobiliser — there’s no owner sequence to program a fresh transponder.

If a Fresh Cell Doesn’t Help

  • Check the cell size and polarity — fitting a CR1620 where a CR2032 belongs gives poor contact.
  • Keyless DS 3 Crossback? Hold the fob against the START button to start the car if the cell is flat.
  • Still dead? A receiver or BSI fault can store a code — look it up on autodtcs.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

What battery does the DS 3 Crossback key use?

Usually a CR2032; some remotes use a CR1620 — always check the old cell.

Do I need to reprogram the fob afterwards?

No — the coding is retained for a battery change.

Can I program a new key myself?

No — a new key must be coded by a DS dealer because of the immobiliser.

How do I open the fob?

Slide the emergency key blade out first, then prise the cover off with a small screwdriver.

If the remote stopped after a battery disconnection, see our DS 3 Crossback battery disconnect/reconnect guide.
