If the tyre-pressure warning has come on in your Range Rover (2013–2022) after you’ve adjusted the pressures or changed a wheel, the system is largely self-managing — set the pressures correctly and the warning clears on its own. The light isn’t a fault warning; it’s telling you the pressures have drifted from where they should be. On a heavy, often-towing vehicle like this, that’s worth taking seriously. Here’s how it works and what to do if it doesn’t clear.

How the System Works

The Range Rover uses direct sensors in each wheel that report actual pressures. There’s no reset button — once the pressures are correct, the system recognises them and the warning light goes out (it may take a short drive to confirm).

Because these are large-diameter wheels carrying a heavy vehicle, the correct pressures vary noticeably with load and speed. The placard typically lists a comfort or normal-load figure and a higher fully-laden or high-speed figure — using the wrong one is a common reason the light appears even though nothing is leaking.

First, a Few Checks

  • Check the tyres cold — before driving or after several hours parked, so road heat isn’t inflating the reading.
  • Read the door-shut placard and pick the correct column for how the car is loaded: everyday driving, full load, or towing.
  • Use an accurate gauge; these tyres are sensitive to a psi or two and forecourt airlines drift.
  • Include the spare if it’s a full-size wheel carrying its own sensor.

Clearing the Warning

  1. Check the tyres cold where possible.
  2. Set all four tyres to the correct pressures (placard in the driver’s door shut or handbook) — note the higher pressures listed for full load, towing or high speed.
  3. Switch the ignition on; with the pressures correct, the warning light should go out.
  4. If it doesn’t clear immediately, drive for a few minutes so the sensors report.

If the Warning Stays On

  • Recheck every tyre — one below spec keeps the warning on, and a single corner a couple of psi down is easy to overlook.
  • Use the right load setting from the placard; if you set to the normal figure but you’re fully loaded or towing, the system reads you as under-inflated.
  • Drive a short distance. The sensors transmit fresh values once the wheels are turning, so a stationary check may not update the light.
  • Space-saver or spare fitted? A temporary wheel runs a different pressure and the warning can stay on until the normal wheel is back on.
  • Slow puncture. If one tyre repeatedly needs air, there’s a leak — a nail, a corroded rim seal or a tired valve — that must be fixed.
  • Cold weather. A sharp temperature drop lowers pressure and can re-trigger the warning; top up while the tyres are cold.
  • Sensor fault. The battery-powered in-wheel sensors last several years; a flat or failed one can’t report and needs replacing.

Once It’s Done

With all four tyres set correctly the light goes out — sometimes at ignition-on, sometimes after the first few minutes of driving once the sensors have transmitted. It then stays off unless a tyre drops again. On a vehicle that often carries heavy loads or a trailer, get into the habit of checking pressures cold before a big trip; the monitor is a backstop, not a replacement for a gauge.

Return to the normal figure once unladen.

Do I need a tool?

Not for a normal reset after adjusting pressures — that clears itself. A tool is only needed when a sensor has failed and a replacement must be fitted and matched to the car, which is a workshop job rather than a roadside fix.

Can cold weather bring the warning back?

Yes. Tyre pressure falls by roughly 1 to 2 psi for every 10°C drop, so a cold night can push a borderline tyre below the threshold even with no leak. Top the pressures back to the placard figure while the tyres are cold and, if it doesn’t clear on its own, a short drive lets the sensors update.
