Reset the Tire Pressure Warning Light

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated October 2, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the BMW X5 Mk2 (E70) 2006-2013.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

The BMW X5 (E70, 2006–2013) uses a Flat Tyre Monitor that learns the current tire pressures as its reference, so you reset the warning through the iDrive screen after inflating the tires or changing a wheel — no tools needed.

How to Reset the Tire Pressure Warning on a BMW X5 (E70)

  1. Set all four tires to the correct cold pressures (label on the driver’s door pillar or fuel flap).
  2. Switch the ignition on.
  3. On the iDrive screen open SETTINGS.
  4. Select Vehicle status, then Tyre pressure monitoring.
  5. Select Reset from the menu, then switch the ignition off. Drive normally so the system relearns.

When You Need to Reset

  • After checking or adjusting tire pressures.
  • After changing one or more wheels or tires, including fitting winter wheels.
  • After rotating the tires.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the tire pressure light still on after resetting?

The monitor saves whatever pressures are set when you reset. Inflate every tire correctly first, then reset — otherwise it stores a low tire as “normal”. A short drive is needed to finish the relearn.

Does the X5 E70 have pressure sensors?

Most E70s use the ABS-based Flat Tyre Monitor (no in-wheel sensors), which is why the reset is a simple iDrive “Reset” plus a drive. Later cars may use sensors; if iDrive won’t reset, they may need matching.
