These instructions apply to the Chevrolet Equinox Mk2 2010-2017.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.
Because the 2010–2017 Chevrolet Equinox’s battery sits low and out of view, GM gives you remote terminals under the hood for jumping. This is the US-market procedure.
- Both vehicles in P, parking brakes on, ignitions off, accessories off; donor close but not touching.
- Lift the red cap on the remote positive (+) terminal on the under-hood fuse block (driver side).
- Red (+) to that remote positive, then to the donor’s positive (+).
- Black (−) to the donor’s negative (−), then to the Equinox’s remote negative ground stud (marked GND, near the driver-side strut tower) — not the battery.
- Run the donor a few minutes, start the Equinox, remove the cables in reverse order.
FAQ
Where do I connect?
The remote positive under the red cap on the fuse block, and the remote negative GND stud near the driver strut tower — not the buried battery.
Why the remote terminals?
The battery is hard to reach, so GM routes jump points to the top of the engine bay.
It won’t start.
Let the donor run a few minutes and check the clamps; a repeat failure means a battery or alternator test.
If your Equinox stores a fault code with the warning light, look it up on autodtcs.com.
