These instructions apply to the Chevrolet Impala Mk9 (W-body) 2006-2013.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.
GM gives the 2006–2013 Chevrolet Impala a remote positive terminal under the hood for jumping, rather than clamping the battery post directly. This is the US-market procedure.
- Both vehicles in P, parking brakes on, ignitions off; donor close but not touching.
- On the Impala, open the under-hood fuse-block cover (passenger side) to reach the remote positive (+) terminal.
- Red (+) to that remote positive, then to the donor’s positive (+).
- Black (−) to the donor’s negative (−), then to a heavy unpainted metal engine point at least 18 inches from the battery on the Impala.
- Start the donor, then the Impala; remove the cables in reverse order and refit the fuse-block cover.
FAQ
Where’s the positive terminal?
On the under-hood fuse block (passenger side), under its cover — the remote positive GM wants you to use instead of the battery post.
Where do I ground?
Heavy unpainted engine metal, at least 18 inches from the battery — not the dead battery’s negative post.
Still won’t start?
Let the donor run a few minutes; a repeat failure means a battery/alternator test.
If your Impala stores a fault code with the warning light, look it up on autodtcs.com.
