These instructions apply to the Chevrolet Suburban (GMT900) 2007-2014.

The 2007–2014 Chevrolet Suburban (GMT900) — GM’s extended-length full-size SUV — tracks oil condition with the GM Oil Life System and flags CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON when service is due. Once you’ve changed the oil and filter, you zero it from the Driver Information Center yourself. This is the US-market procedure.
- With the engine off, switch the ignition to ON/RUN (trucks without DIC buttons must be in P).
- Tap the vehicle information button, or the trip-odometer stem, until the DIC shows OIL LIFE REMAINING.
- Hold the SET/RESET button (or the trip stem) for more than five seconds until the figure jumps to 100%.
Should the message reappear at the next start, run through it again. This generation has no accelerator-pedal shortcut — that arrived with the later K2XX Suburban.
FAQ
Why doesn’t the gas-pedal trick work?
On the 2007–2014 Suburban the only reset is holding the SET/RESET button (or trip stem) on the OIL LIFE REMAINING screen. The three-pedal-press method is a later K2XX feature.
How much oil does this big SUV take?
About 6.0 qt of 5W-30 (GM spec) on the V8 — the same as the shorter Tahoe it’s based on.
Is CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON urgent?
It’s the mileage/condition service reminder you reset here. A red oil-pressure light is the urgent one — stop and check the level.
The Suburban is the extended-length version of the Chevrolet Tahoe and shares the Silverado’s GM running gear, so these steps are identical across all three — see our Chevrolet Tahoe guides and Silverado guides.
If your Suburban stores a fault code with the warning light, decode it on autodtcs.com.
