Reset the Tire Pressure Monitor (TPMS)

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated October 12, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Chevrolet Suburban (GMT900) 2007-2014.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Every 2007–2014 Chevrolet Suburban (GMT900) carries a direct TPMS sensor in each wheel. After rotating this big SUV’s tires you tell it which sensor now sits at which corner — and on this generation you do it with the key fob alone, no tool. This is the US-market procedure.

  1. Inflate all four to the placard pressure (below), set the parking brake, and switch the ignition ON (engine off).
  2. Hold the fob’s LOCK and UNLOCK buttons together for ~5 seconds until the horn double-beeps and TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE appears — it starts at the driver-front.
  3. At the driver-front, briefly let air out or add air until the horn chirps (up to ~30 seconds) — that corner is matched.
  4. Work round in order: passenger-front, passenger-rear, driver-rear. A final double-beep ends the relearn.
  5. Switch off and top all four to the placard figure.

The first wheel has a two-minute window, five minutes for the lot — restart if it lapses.

Chevrolet Suburban tire pressures (cold)

Pressures are set by fitted size and printed on the Tire and Loading Information label on the driver-side center (B) pillar — the authority for your vehicle. The common figure on these full-size SUVs is:

Tire sizeFront & rear (cold)
P265/70R17, P265/65R1835 psi
P275/55R2035 psi

Set them cold and match your placard — a fully loaded Suburban with a trailer may call for a higher rear figure, which the placard lists.

FAQ

Do I need a relearn tool?

No — the GMT900 Suburban relearns with the key fob and a quick pressure nudge at each wheel. The later K2XX Suburban needs a relearn tool instead.

Which corner comes first?

Driver-front, then passenger-front, passenger-rear, driver-rear.

Light won’t clear?

Re-check all four cold pressures and run the relearn again; a sensor with a dead battery needs replacing.

If your Suburban stores a fault code with the warning light, decode it on autodtcs.com.
