The 2008-2023 Dodge Challenger shows an oil change required message when it’s due, and you clear it after an oil change in one of two ways. This is the US-market procedure.
Accelerator-pedal method
- Without pressing the brake, press ENGINE START/STOP to put the ignition in ON/RUN (do not start the engine).
- Fully press the accelerator pedal slowly three times within 10 seconds.
- Press ENGINE START/STOP once (no brake) to return to OFF. The indicator is reset.
Driver Information Display method
- Ignition in ON/RUN, engine off.
- Use the steering-wheel arrows to Vehicle Info → Oil Life.
- Press and hold OK — the display updates to 100%.
If the message reappears at the next start, the reset didn’t take — repeat it (the ignition must be in RUN with the engine off).
FAQ
When should I reset it?
Only after an oil and filter change. The system also caps the interval at 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first.
Which oil does it take?
5W-20 on the 3.6L V6 (6.0 qt) and 5.7L HEMI (7.0 qt); the 6.4L 392 uses 0W-40 synthetic. Check your oil-fill cap.
Nothing happens with the pedal method.
Make sure the ignition is in ON/RUN with the engine off, then press the pedal fully three times within 10 seconds.
The Challenger shares its LX platform, drivetrains and these procedures with the four-door Dodge Charger.
If your Challenger stores a fault code with the warning light, decode it on autodtcs.com.
