Reset the Oil Life

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated October 12, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Ford F-150 Mk12 (P415) 2009-2014.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

The 2009–2014 Ford F-150 (P415) uses the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor, which you reset from the message center after each oil change. The method depends on your cluster buttons. This is the US-market procedure. (Note: the 6.2L V8 has no oil monitor — it follows a fixed 7,500-mile schedule.)

Standard cluster (SETUP / RESET buttons)

  1. Switch the ignition ON (engine off).
  2. Press SETUP until the message center shows OIL LIFE XXX% — HOLD RESET = NEW.
  3. Press and hold RESET for about two seconds and release — the oil life returns to 100%.

Productivity cluster (OK button)

  1. Ignition ON. Use the steering-wheel arrows to open Settings.
  2. Select Oil Life Reset, then press and hold OK to set it to 100%.

FAQ

Which method is mine?

Trucks with SETUP/RESET buttons use the first method; trucks with the OK-button productivity cluster use the Settings menu.

My 6.2L has no oil-life display.

Correct — the 6.2L V8 doesn’t use the monitor; change the oil on the fixed 7,500-mile interval.

What oil does it take?

5W-20 on the 3.7L V6, 5.0L and 6.2L V8; 5W-30 on the 3.5L EcoBoost. Capacities run 6.0–7.7 qt by engine.

If your F-150 stores a fault code with the warning light, look it up on autodtcs.com.
