Reset the Oil Service Reminder

These instructions apply to the Ford Fiesta Mk8 (2017-2023). For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: June 5, 2026

When the “Oil change due” message or the spanner appears on your Ford Fiesta Mk8 (2017–2023), the oil-life monitor has counted down to its limit. The Fiesta gives you two ways to reset it — a menu method on cars with the trip display, and a neat pedal method for basic clusters. Do the oil and filter first, then use whichever fits your car.

Reset After the Oil Change Only

The Fiesta estimates oil life from how the car is driven, then prompts when it’s low. Resetting without fresh oil tells the car the old oil is new, so it’ll run past the safe point. Always change the oil and filter first.

Method 1 — Cars With the Menu Display

  1. Turn the ignition on (engine off).
  2. Using the steering-wheel buttons, scroll the display to ‘Settings’.
  3. Select ‘Information’, then ‘Oil life reset’.
  4. Press and hold ‘OK’ until the confirmation message appears.

Method 2 — Basic Cluster (Pedal Method)

  1. Turn the ignition on but do not start the engine.
  2. Fully press both the accelerator and brake pedals together and hold them.
  3. Keep holding — after about 25–30 seconds a confirmation message appears.
  4. Release both pedals together, then turn the ignition off.

If the Message Won’t Clear

  • Released too early — on the pedal method you must hold until it confirms (around 25–30 s).
  • It’s a different warning — an amber engine or oil-pressure light is a fault, not the service timer, and won’t clear this way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Fiesta use oil-life monitoring?

Yes — it estimates remaining oil life from your driving, so the mileage between resets varies. Reset to full after every oil change.

What’s the pedal trick for?

Cars without the full menu reset via the pedals: ignition on, hold accelerator + brake together until it confirms (~25–30 s).

Do I need a diagnostic tool?

No — both methods are done from the driver’s seat with no tools.

The spanner came back — why?

The reset didn’t confirm, or a separate fault is present. Repeat the reset; if it returns, have the car scanned.

If a warning light appeared with the service message, look it up on autodtcs.com. After battery work, see our Fiesta Mk8 battery guide.
