Reset the Maintenance Minder

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated October 12, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Honda Civic Mk8 (FA/FG/FD) 2006-2011.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

The 2006–2011 Honda Civic uses Maintenance Minder, which tracks oil life and shows service codes. After an oil change you reset it with the SEL/RESET button. This is the US-market procedure.

  1. Turn the ignition to ON (II) (engine off).
  2. Press the SEL/RESET button repeatedly until the engine oil life is displayed.
  3. Press and hold SEL/RESET for about 10 seconds — the oil life and maintenance codes blink.
  4. Press and hold SEL/RESET for more than 5 seconds — the codes clear and the oil life returns to 100%.

FAQ

What do the letter/number codes mean?

They’re the Maintenance Minder’s service items (A/B main items plus sub-items 1–6). Reset them all after completing the service.

What oil does it take?

0W-20 or 5W-20 — about 3.9 qt on the 1.8L R18, 4.6 qt on the 2.0L Si.

Only the oil-life resets, not the codes.

Hold SEL/RESET the second time for more than 5 seconds — that clears the item codes too.

If your Civic stores a fault code with the warning light, look it up on autodtcs.com.
