Bleed the Brake System

These instructions apply to the Opel Zafira Mk3 (P12) 2011-2019. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: April 10, 2026

Bleeding the brake system on an Opel Zafira Tourer removes air from the hydraulic lines and ensures consistent brake pedal feel. This procedure applies to vehicles without an electro-hydraulic brake system and should be carried out whenever brake components or brake fluid have been replaced.

Before You Begin

  • Ensure the brake fluid level is between the MIN and MAX marks.
  • Do not switch the ignition on during the bleeding process.
  • Inspect the complete braking system and hydraulic clutch system for leaks.
  • Allow the brakes to cool down before starting.

  2. Switch the ignition OFF.
  3. Press the brake pedal several times until a firm resistance is felt.
  4. Remove the brake fluid reservoir cap.
  5. Connect a brake bleeding device to the reservoir.
  6. Gradually increase the system pressure to 2.0–2.5 bar.
  7. Raise the vehicle safely.
  8. Bleed the brakes in the following order:
    • Rear right brake
    • Rear left brake
    • Front right brake
    • Front left brake
  9. Attach a transparent hose to the bleed screw.
  10. Open the bleed screw and allow fluid to flow until it is clear and free of air bubbles.
  11. Close the bleed screw.
  12. Repeat the procedure for each wheel in the specified sequence.
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14. Disconnect the bleeding device.
  15. Refit the brake fluid reservoir cap.

After Bleeding

  • Recheck the brake fluid level and top up if necessary.
  • Inspect the entire braking system again for leaks.
  • Ensure the brake pedal feels firm before driving.
