The Opel Zafira Tourer (P12/C, 2011–2019) has a genuine factory hidden test menu you can open straight from the radio — no diagnostic tool, cable or app needed. It is the same Board Information Display engineering menu used across this generation of Opel and Vauxhall models, and it reads out battery voltage, coolant temperature, display temperature, hardware and software versions, and a bus page listing faults from other modules.
What the Hidden Menu Is and What It Shows
This is the read-only engineering menu Opel technicians use for a quick health check. On the Zafira Tourer the screens typically include:
- Battery voltage at the display.
- Engine coolant temperature as a live figure.
- LCD / display temperature and the lighting dimmer level.
- Hardware version, software version and build date of the unit.
- A “Bus” page listing incoming faults reported by other control units on the CAN network.
- Fuel-consumption and trip-computer data pages.
You cannot change anything — the screens are pure read-outs, so browsing them will not upset any setting.
How to Open It
- Turn the ignition on and let the radio/display wake up.
- Press and hold the SETTINGS button on the radio until you hear it beep (about five seconds).
- Release the SETTINGS button, then press the BC (Board Computer) button to enter the hidden menu.
Reading Voltage, Temperatures and Codes
Inside the menu, press the BC button to step from one screen to the next. With the engine running, the battery-voltage page should read about 13.8–14.6 V on a healthy charging system. The Bus page is the standout: it lists fault references coming in from other modules, so it points you straight at the system that is complaining. Note down any number you see for later decoding.
How to Exit
Press the SETTINGS button again, or the back/menu control, to return to the normal radio display — or simply switch the ignition off. Nothing is saved and nothing is altered; the menu is a viewer only.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Zafira Tourer hidden menu need a scan tool?
No. It is a built-in factory menu opened with the SETTINGS-then-BC button sequence on the standard radio — no scanner or app.
Can I damage anything by opening it?
No. The pages are read-only diagnostic screens. They do not reset the service indicator, clear codes or change any personalisation.
What does the Bus page tell me?
It shows faults reported by other control units across the CAN network — a fast way to see which module has flagged a problem.
The SETTINGS button won’t beep — why?
The menu only works with the factory head unit. If the radio has been swapped for an aftermarket unit, the BC link is gone and the combination does nothing.
Can I clear faults from this menu?
No — it only displays them. To understand a code shown on the Bus page, look it up on autodtcs.com.
If the Bus page or a value screen shows a fault reference, decode what it means on autodtcs.com.
