Home/Opel/Zafira/Mk3 (P12) 2011-2019/Reset a Frozen Infotainment Screen

Reset a Frozen Infotainment Screen

These instructions apply to the Opel Zafira Mk3 (P12) 2011-2019. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: June 10, 2026

The Opel Zafira (Mk3/P12, 2011–2019) — sold as the Zafira Tourer — carries GM-era infotainment: the CD 600 IntelliLink, Navi 650 and the top Navi 950 IntelliLink with its colour touchscreen, alongside the basic CD radios on entry trims. These are General Motors units, the same IntelliLink family as the Astra J and Corsa E, so when the screen freezes, stops responding to touch, sticks on the boot logo or plays audio with a dead picture, you reboot it the GM way — from the dashboard controls, without tools.

Which system the Zafira P12 uses

The Mk3 Zafira runs GM IntelliLink (CD 600 / Navi 650 / Navi 950), operated by a power/volume rotary knob plus Home, the media-transport keys and a Phone button on equipped trims. This is the GM platform, not the Stellantis NAC system of the newer Corsa F or Astra L, so the Home + Fast-Forward and power-knob reboots below are the correct methods here.

Soft reset (the normal fix)

  1. Switch the ignition on so the cluster and infotainment are powered.
  2. Press and hold the power/volume knob for about 5 to 10 seconds — on many Navi 950 / CD 600 units a menu pops up asking whether to reboot the system; confirm it.
  3. Alternatively, hold the Home and Fast-Forward (next-track) keys together for around 10 seconds until the unit powers off, then press the power knob to restart.
  4. On phone-equipped cars, holding the Phone button for roughly 5 seconds also forces a restart.
  5. Let the screen go dark, wait a few seconds for shutdown, then allow the Opel logo and home screen to load.

Is it safe? Will I lose data?

Yes — the reboot is non-destructive. Radio presets, paired Bluetooth phones and saved navigation destinations all remain. It restarts the head unit without clearing its memory, so you can do it whenever the system glitches.

If it stays frozen

  • Turn the ignition off, open the driver’s door, close it, then restart the car — the door cycle prompts a clean power-down of the unit.
  • Lock the car and leave it 20–30 minutes so the radio sleeps; many Zafira freezes clear after a proper rest.
  • Retry the knob-hold or button combination; a single attempt can abort if the system locked mid-task.
  • As a last resort, pull the radio/infotainment fuse for about 30 seconds (check the handbook for the exact fuse), or disconnect the 12V battery negative terminal for ten minutes — both force a hard power-cut and will reset the clock.

Factory reset (erases data)

If the IntelliLink keeps freezing, restore it to defaults. On Navi 650 / Navi 950 cars open Settings from the home screen, find the system/restore section and choose the restore-factory-settings option, confirming when asked. This wipes presets, paired devices and saved destinations, so keep it for repeat lock-ups a reboot will not cure. The basic CD radios have no software reset menu — for those, a battery disconnect is the equivalent reset.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Zafira P12 reset like a newer Corsa F or Astra L?

No. The Zafira P12 uses GM IntelliLink, rebooted via the power-knob hold (often with a reboot menu) or the Home + Fast-Forward combination. The Corsa F and Astra L use the Stellantis NAC system with a single long power-knob press — a different platform and method.

A reboot menu appeared when I held the knob — is that right?

Yes. On many Zafira IntelliLink units, holding the power/volume knob deliberately offers a reboot prompt. Confirm it to restart the system cleanly.

Will resetting delete my presets or paired phone?

A soft reboot keeps them. Only a factory/restore-defaults reset, or a long battery disconnect, clears presets and paired devices.

The screen is black but the radio still plays — reset or fault?

Reboot first; a frozen display often returns. If the picture never comes back after rebooting, the Navi 950 LCD or its connection may have a hardware fault rather than a software freeze.

My Zafira just has a CD radio, no touchscreen — how do I reset it?

The basic CD radios have no reset menu. Disconnect the 12V battery negative terminal for about ten minutes, reconnect, and the radio re-initialises (you may need the security code if one is set).

If a fault code is logged alongside a dead or rebooting screen, decode it on autodtcs.com before assuming the head unit has failed.
