Reinitialise the Sunroof

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated September 2, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Hyundai ix35 Mk1 (LM) 2010-2015.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

If your Hyundai ix35 has the optional glass sunroof, disconnecting the 12V battery or letting it go flat wipes the sunroof’s stored calibration, so one-touch and auto operation stop working properly. Re-initialising it teaches the motor its open and closed limits again.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. Press the sunroof switch in the close direction and hold it until the sunroof is fully closed, then release.
  3. Press and hold the switch in the close (forward) direction again for about 10 seconds. The sunroof tilts and moves slightly to begin the calibration.
  4. Keep holding the switch. The sunroof runs its full self-calibration cycle automatically: sunshade open, sunroof tilt open, sunroof slide open, sunroof slide closed, then sunshade close.
  5. Only release the switch once the whole cycle has finished. Check that tilt, slide and one-touch all work correctly.

Good to know

This only applies to cars fitted with the optional glass sunroof. If your ix35 has no sunroof switch in the overhead console, there is nothing to re-initialise.

Run the re-initialisation straight after any battery disconnect if the sunroof misbehaves. If it still will not calibrate, or the cycle stops part way through, have the sunroof checked.

FAQ

Why won’t my ix35 sunroof work properly after a battery change?

A flat or disconnected battery erases the sunroof’s stored calibration, so one-touch and auto movement stop behaving correctly. Re-initialising it restores normal operation.

How do I reinitialise the sunroof?

Turn the ignition on, close the sunroof fully, then press and hold the close switch for about 10 seconds and keep holding it through the full automatic tilt, slide and sunshade cycle. Release only when it has finished.

Do I need any tools?

No. The whole procedure is done with the sunroof switch and the ignition on. No tools or diagnostic equipment are needed.

What if it stops part way through the cycle?

Repeat the procedure from the start. If it still will not complete the calibration, have the sunroof checked.
