Reset the Service Indicator

These instructions apply to the Infiniti Q50 (V37) 2013-2023.

After an oil-and-filter change on your Infiniti Q50 (V37, 2013–2023), the service indicator needs resetting so the maintenance countdown starts again. You can do it yourself from the dashboard menu — no tool needed. The maintenance note is a scheduling reminder, not a fault: it keeps track of when each service item is next due, and once you’ve done the work it simply needs telling so the count restarts.

What the Maintenance Note Means on the Q50

The Q50’s maintenance system is more flexible than a single service light. Rather than one combined counter, it tracks individual items — such as the engine oil and oil filter — each with its own countdown to the next service. When an item reaches its interval, the maintenance note appears to remind you that item is due.

This is why the reset is done per item rather than as one blanket action: you select the specific job you have carried out and reset that item’s countdown. Because the system schedules by distance and time, it cannot detect the actual work — changing the oil does not clear the note on its own, so you have to reset the matching item through the menu after the job is done.

First, a Few Checks

  • Do the oil and filter change first — resetting only clears the reminder.
  • Park on level ground with the parking brake on and the transmission in Park.
  • Switch the ignition on with the engine off — press start/stop without the brake.
  • No tools are required; the whole reset is done from the dashboard display.
  • Know which service item you completed so you reset the right one under ‘All Parts’.

Resetting the Service Indicator

  1. Press the start/stop button (without the brake) to switch the ignition on.
  2. Scroll the display menu and select ‘Maintenance note’.
  3. Select ‘Maintenance icon’, then ‘All Parts’.
  4. Select the service item you’ve done and choose ‘RESET’ (or set the distance to next service).
  5. Switch the ignition off — the procedure is complete.

Use the steering-wheel or console controls to move through the on-screen menu. Selecting the correct item matters — resetting ‘All Parts’ or the wrong entry can leave the reminder you meant to clear still counting, or reset an item you didn’t service.

If the Reset Doesn’t Take

If the maintenance note is still showing, it is usually the ignition position or the wrong menu item rather than a fault. Work through these:

  • Don’t start the engine — ignition on only (press start without the brake).
  • Pick the correct service item under ‘All Parts’ and confirm the RESET.
  • Watch for the confirmation — make sure the item’s countdown returns to full before you exit.
  • Cycle the ignition off and on and repeat the menu steps if the first attempt didn’t register.
  • A service light that won’t clear can store a code — look it up on autodtcs.com.

Once the Reset Is Done

Once the item is reset, its countdown returns to full and the maintenance note for that item clears. It should not reappear at the next start-up, and the system quietly tracks the distance and time toward the next time that item is due. Only the reminder is affected — nothing about the engine or your other settings changes.

Reset Frequency

Reset each service item whenever you complete the corresponding work — the oil-and-filter item after every oil change, and other items as you carry them out. The exact intervals depend on your engine and driving conditions, so follow the maintenance schedule in your owner’s handbook rather than assuming a fixed figure. Resetting the right item each time keeps every countdown honest.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reset the service light on an Infiniti Q50?

Ignition on (engine off), then Maintenance note > Maintenance icon > All Parts > select item > RESET.

Do I need a tool?

No — it’s done from the dashboard menu.

How do I switch on without starting?

Press the start/stop button without pressing the brake pedal.

Why does the Q50 reset by item instead of one light?

The maintenance system tracks each service item separately, so you reset the specific item you serviced — usually the engine oil and filter — rather than one combined counter.

Should I reset before or after the oil change?

After — the indicator counts down to the next service, so reset it once the work is done.

The note came back after I reset it — why?

Usually the reset wasn’t confirmed or the wrong item was chosen. Reselect the correct item under All Parts, choose RESET, and check the countdown returns to full.

If a service-related warning stays on, decode the code on autodtcs.com.
