Set the Wipers to Service Position

To change the blades or clear snow on your Renault Kadjar (XFE, 2015–2022) you need the wipers in their upright service position. Park them normally and they sit tucked under the bonnet lip out of reach — here’s how to stand them up safely.

The service position — sometimes called the maintenance or winter position — raises both front wiper arms high off the windscreen so you can get behind them. On the Kadjar you reach for it in two everyday situations: renewing the blades once they smear or judder, and standing the arms up in cold weather so they do not freeze flat to the glass overnight and tear the rubber when you first switch them on. It is a designed-in feature of the car, not a fault, and the arms will only rise when you trigger the mode the right way.

Why There’s a Service Position

The Kadjar parks its wiper arms low against the scuttle, tucked under the lip of the bonnet where they sit out of the airflow. That low park is exactly why you should not simply grab an arm and swing it up — the blade catches on the bonnet edge, and levering it strains the wiper linkage and can crack the plastic trim. Changing the Blades

With the arms standing clear, support the arm with one hand so it cannot spring back — a bare metal arm dropping onto the screen can crack it. Fit the fresh blade, then lower the arm gently by hand rather than letting it snap down, and do both sides before you send the wipers back to park.
