If the tyre-pressure warning on your Kia Niro Mk1 (DE, 2016–2022) has come on — after adjusting pressures, rotating the wheels, or swapping to winter tyres — it usually just needs the car to be driven so the system relearns. The Niro uses a direct TPMS with a sensor in each wheel, but the reset is automatic and done from the driver’s seat. This guide shows how.
How the Niro’s TPMS Works
Each wheel has a pressure sensor in the valve that radios its reading to the car — so the display can show each tyre’s actual pressure. Because the sensors report directly, there’s no menu “set” step: you correct the pressures and the system re-checks itself as you drive.
How to Reset the Niro Mk1 TPMS
- Set all four tyres to the correct pressure (cold) — the figures are on the label in the driver’s door jamb.
- Drive the vehicle for about 20 minutes at a steady speed, keeping above roughly 25 km/h (15 mph).
- The system relearns the corrected pressures and the warning goes out by itself.
There’s no button or tool needed for a normal reset — correcting the pressures and driving is enough.
If the Warning Stays On
- Re-check every tyre, including the spare if your Niro carries a monitored full-size one.
- One tyre keeps going low — look for a slow puncture; the system is doing its job.
- The light flashes for a while at start-up — a steady flash points to a sensor fault (a dead sensor battery, or a sensor not relearned after a wheel swap) and needs a scan/relearn tool at a tyre shop.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Niro TPMS need a tool to reset?
Not for a normal reset — set the pressures and drive. A relearn tool is only needed if sensors were replaced or swapped between wheels.
How long until the light goes out?
Usually within about 20 minutes of steady driving above 25 km/h after correcting the pressures.
Why did the light come on in cold weather?
Pressure drops as temperature falls. Top the tyres back to the door-label figure and drive to clear it.
The TPMS light keeps flashing — is that low pressure?
A persistent flash usually means a sensor fault rather than low pressure — have the sensors checked.
If a fault code is stored, look it up on autodtcs.com. To clear a service reminder, see our Niro Mk1 service indicator reset guide.
