These instructions apply to the Mazda 2 Mk3 (DJ/DL) 2015-2022.

The Mazda 2 (DJ, 2015–2022) has two fuse boxes: one in the engine bay and one inside the cabin on the driver’s side. A single dead circuit — a 12V socket, a light, the wipers — is usually one blown fuse, and you can swap it yourself in a couple of minutes once you’ve found the right box.
Where Are the Fuse Boxes?
- Engine-bay fuse block — a black box near the battery, holding the higher-current fuses (headlights, cooling fans, ABS, engine systems). Lift off its cover to reach the fuses.
- Interior fuse block — behind a flap on the driver’s-side lower dash / side trim, holding the cabin-electrics fuses (12V outlet, mirrors, rear wiper, seat heaters, instrument feeds).
Rule of thumb: for an interior electrics fault check the cabin box first; for exterior lighting or an engine-side fault, check the engine-bay box.
How to Change a Fuse
- Switch the ignition off and turn off the circuit involved.
- Open the relevant box. The fuse puller clips onto the engine-bay fuse block — use it rather than pliers, which crack the plastic or bridge contacts.
- Read the legend printed on the lid (or the inside of the cover) to find the fuse for the dead circuit, and pull it straight out.
- Hold it to the light: a blown fuse has a broken metal strip or a scorched window.
- Fit a new fuse of the same amperage (same color). Never fit a higher rating — the fuse protects the wiring, and over-fusing risks a fire.
- Test the circuit. If the new fuse blows again, there’s a fault in that circuit — stop and diagnose it, don’t keep replacing fuses.
Useful Fuses to Know
Every car’s layout differs by trim and market, so always confirm against the legend on your own lid. On the DJ Mazda 2 a few are worth knowing:
- Accessory / 12V socket (“F.OUTLET”): 15A, in the interior box — the first thing to check if a phone charger or 12V socket stops working.
- Headlights, cooling fans, ABS/DSC and the main power feeds live in the engine-bay box at higher ratings (20–50A).
- The MAIN fuse and the high-current “multiplex” fuses must not be replaced by the owner — if one of those has failed, it’s a Mazda dealer job (it usually points to a bigger fault).
We don’t reproduce the full slot-by-slot map here because it varies by engine, trim and market — the accurate map for your exact car is the one printed on your fuse-box lid.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the 12V / cigarette-lighter fuse on a Mazda 2?
The accessory outlet is protected by the “F.OUTLET” 15A fuse in the interior (driver’s-side) fuse box. If your 12V socket is dead, check that fuse first, then the socket itself.
Is there a fuse puller in the Mazda 2?
Yes — a small plastic puller clips onto the engine-bay fuse block. Use it to remove fuses from either box without damaging them.
My new fuse blew straight away — what now?
That means a short or an overloaded circuit, not a weak fuse. Don’t keep fitting fuses or go up a rating. Trace the fault (or have it traced); if a warning light is involved, scan for codes and look them up at autodtcs.com.
