These instructions apply to the Mazda 2 Mk3 (DJ/DL) 2015-2022.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.
Most Mazda 2 (DJ, 2015–2022) cars use a single H4 halogen bulb for both dipped and main beam, changed from behind the headlight in the engine bay. Higher trims came with LED headlights, which are a sealed unit — those aren’t an owner bulb change. Check which you have before buying anything.
Mazda 2 (DJ) Bulb Types
| Lamp | Bulb |
|---|---|
| Headlight dipped + main (halogen) | H4 (60/55W) |
| Headlight (LED trim) | LED — sealed, dealer only |
| Front turn signal | WY21W (amber) |
| Daytime running / position (halogen heads) | W21/5W |
| Position light (LED heads) | W5W |
| Front fog light (where fitted) | H11 (55W) |
| Rear turn signal | WY21W |
| Reversing light | W16W |
| Rear fog (where fitted) | W21W |
| Licence-plate light | W5W |
| Side repeater, high-level brake, tail/brake (LED cars) | LED — non-replaceable |
Some lamps are LED depending on trim and market — if a bulb type above doesn’t match what you find, your car has the LED version of that lamp. Confirm before buying.
How to Change a Headlight Bulb (Halogen H4)
- Switch everything off and open the hood. Work on one side at a time with the bulb cold.
- At the back of the headlight, unclip and remove the round weather cover.
- Unplug the connector from the bulb.
- Release the wire retaining clip (pinch and swing it aside) and withdraw the H4 bulb.
- Fit the new H4 by its metal base, lining up the tabs so it only seats one way. Don’t touch the glass — skin oils create a hot-spot that shortens bulb life; wipe it with alcohol if you do.
- Refit the retaining clip, reconnect the plug, and press the weather cover back on fully (a loose cover lets in condensation).
- Test dipped and main beam before closing the hood.
Frequently Asked Questions
What headlight bulb does a Mazda 2 take?
Halogen-headlight Mazda 2 (DJ) cars use a single H4 bulb per side for both dipped and main beam. LED-headlight trims don’t take a bulb — the unit is sealed.
Do I have to remove anything to reach the bulb?
On most DJ Mazda 2s the H4 is reachable from behind the headlight after popping off the round cover. Tight-packed engine bays sometimes need the air-intake or washer-bottle neck nudged aside on one side; it’s still a no-tools job in most cases.
One headlight is dimmer / yellower than the other.
Halogen bulbs fade with age — replace them in pairs so both beams match. A yellow-ish beam that’s also flickering can point to a connector or earth fault rather than the bulb.
